Fishpond construction has a tradition of several centuries in the region of Třeboň. At present there are over 500 large and small a fishponds in the region of Třeboň that make up 16 systems, the best-known being the systems of
Naděje and Chlum.
The fishpond system in the region of Třeboň was nominated, under the name “The Fishpond Heritage of Třeboň“ to be put on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The “Rožmberk Fishpond System“ (the fishponds Rožmberk and Svět, the Stará a Nová řeka / Old and New Canals, the Zlatá stoka Canal) was declared a national cultural monument in 2002.
Sport fishermen, as well as those who go fishing for recreation only, are offered the possibility of recreational fishing in the region of Třeboň, and will certainly get their money’s worth.
